WMFF is managed by an Executive Council of 24 members, possessing a wide range of expertise and a diverse membership from BME and faith groups drawn from across the region. The Executive Council operates in conjunction with the Board of Directors in the new status of WMFF being a Company limited by guarantee. The new setup is based on a constitution adopted in November 2005.
Recruitment procedures for new Executive Council members have been devised to reflect the faith diversity of the region, gender, rural/urban coverage and inclusion of established sub-regional inter faith networks. Some faiths groups are currently underrepresented on the Executive Council and WMFF is keen to redress the balance.
WMFF currently has no paid staff but 3 committed volunteers. The Executive Council members give their time in a voluntary capacity. Staff and volunteers are managed by the WMFF Chair and Board, with written reports presented to the Executive Council at its regular meetings.
As part of its remit, the Executive Council aims to:
- represent community views at local and strategic meetings and to advocate on behalf of communities to policy and decision-makers.
- act as a consultative body offering support to and working with statutory and non-statutory organisations involved in delivering services to communities.
- collect, assemble and disseminate useful information relevant to WMFF and other sector organisations working in collaboration with it.
- develop joint innovative projects with its members to reflect the specific needs of the region's diverse communities.
- assist faith community organisations with operational management, fundraising, capacity building and training and to provide development support to smaller groups and organisations within the West Midlands who provide support to faith communities.
- bring together in conference representatives of voluntary organisations, government departments and statutory authorities and otherwise to arrange exhibitions, meetings, lectures, classes, seminars and training sessions on matters of general relevance to WMFF and other collaborating organisations.
- take the lead in conducting research and developing interventions, in conjunction with various partners, which will promote and encourage the mitigation of some of the social problems and inequalities within the region.
- convene policy groups to inform and further these aims.
